kyoto temples and gardens

On 01, Nov 2010 | In Selected Posts, Travel & Life | By sue

One of my favorite days in Kyoto was the one we spent biking through Arashiyama (Western Kyoto). I haven’t biked in years, but I managed not to crash into anyone, and the scenery was perfect to experience by bike.

beautiful kyoto

On 28, Oct 2010 | In Selected Posts, Travel & Life | By sue

Been having a blast in Kyoto w/ Tanya – the weather has been outstanding and the sights absolutely gorgeous. I’ve been going overboard with the picture-taking and sorting is going to take forever, but for now, some photos from my first day – Ninnaji Temple and Sanjusangen-do. Sanjusangen-do is a temple housing 1000 human-size statues of Kannon – it’s really stunning inside, but you can’t take pictures there. Google it!

seoul design fair, part 1

On 15, Oct 2010 | In Design, Selected Posts, Travel & Life | By sue

The Seoul Design Fair was part of why I decided to visit Seoul—Seoul is the World Design Capital for 2010, so the fair is a pretty big deal. I was disappointed by the main pavilions—of course there were some interesting displays, but overall the exhibits were poorly organized and a bit haphazard. There was a lot of really great design to discover in the other parts of the fair, though—design industry exhibitions, the Seoul Design Market, and the student exhibitions.

picturesque nanjing

On 01, Oct 2010 | In Selected Posts, Travel & Life | By sue

Went to Nanjing for a few days last week over the Moon Festival holiday. It was great—I went in with no expectations, and I ended up really enjoying the cultural and historical sites I visited with my relatives. My relatives were very laid-back and fun to hang out with, and the weather during my visit happened to be amazing. Also, I loved that there was a lot of nature at all the historical sites.

I’m off to visit the maternal hometown for the weekend, which will hopefully be nice and not that awkward. In the meantime, some delicious and weird food-related photos, from interesting Chinese takes on Western food products to uh, “interesting” supermarket finds.
